The Problem

The goal of this project was to redesign the existing Time Cards product in order to prepare for more extensive labor enhancements. The team also wanted to enhance the user experience based on customer feedback and known shortcomings. The project was a challenge because the team had to think about the implementation of time cards holistically. The data collected by this tool had a massive impact throughout the entire SALIDO system.

The Process

As I always do, I started with research. This included understanding the desired business outcome and reviewing the previously implemented solution, requirements, and users' feedback. The Pm and I also talked to various clients across different user groups about their operations in managing employees' time cards. We observed particular users tasked with managing time cards daily or weekly, used our tool, and researched what clients liked and disliked about our current time card solution. After analyzing and synthesizing all the data, I reviewed my findings with key stakeholders in the business and internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to elicit their feedback and brainstorm ideas. I also looked at our top competitors to see how they solved specific problems. I then used this feedback and information to create a UX map and build out the user workflows before creating wireframes. There were also several whiteboarding sessions revolving around particular pain points.

The Conclusion

After several iterations, design reviews, and more feedback and analysis, the product manager and I created a complete set of designs along with the appropriate workflows and business logic. We then reviewed the designs and built a prototype with InVision Studios to test externally with our clients. We received great feedback that confirmed we had solved the previously stated problems and were ready to implement the new design.

Additional Work

During my time at SALIDO, I led an initiative to create a design system for our web and iOS apps. I also worked on an employee onboarding wizard, wholly overhauled our advanced reporting interface, developed a scheduling tool from scratch that integrated with the time cards tool, and worked on a manager app that allowed real-time tracking of data and operations.
